Well done to Fishguard Bay Welcome and the Fishguard Friendly Faces.
They are the South West Wales Regional Winners of the National Tourism Award in the Best Destination Category.
The twin towns are very, very proud of you.
Looks like they enjoyed their well deserved reception at the Celtic Manor on Thursday 8th March 2018 and don’t they all look fabulous.

The Fishguard Bay Welcome team are finalists in the Pembrokeshire Tourism Awards in the Welcome Team catergory. The awards will take place Saturday 21st April 2018 at The Pavilion, Withybush Showground, Haverfordwest.

Comments Off on Fishguard and Goodwick Surgeries to Almalgamate
Goodwick residents have today started to receive letters informing them that Goodwick surgery will amalgamate with Fishguard, making one surgery in Fishguard, later this year. Patients registered with Goodwick will automatically have their registration moved at the time so have no need to do anything. There are plans to extensively refurbishment the Fishguard surgery to enable it to cope with the extra patients. Staff currently working at the Goodwick surgery, which will close after the amalgamation, have the option to move to the Fishguard surgery.
Cliff Benson from the Seatrust hosted a meeting in the Ocean Lab last night (29/1/18) with the aim of setting up a community action group. The main purpose of the group is to maximise the harbour fronts of both Goodwick and Fishguard for the benefit of our community and businesses. The meeting was well attended with over 30 people there. There was a huge amount of enthusiasm and many inspiring ideas. One of the most urgent matters is to obtain the lease from Pembrokeshire County Council for the Ocean Lab itself. This is currently held by Conygar but that expires at the end of March. Mr Benson is due to hold a meeting with Goodwicks’ county councillor next week.

Conygar has been informed by Stena that they do not wish to have any further involvement in the proposed marina development and do not wish to proceed with the reclamation works of the harbour. Stena’s withdrawal means that the project cannot proceed.
More and more people are beginning to protest about the increasing tide of plastic and unnecessary (and unwanted) excess packaging in supermarkets. There is more and more awareness of the devastating impact plastic has on our oceans and wildlife. Take a look at these two new Facebook groups who are trying do do something to stem this flow of plastic:
Plastic Ocean F&G Their information states:
“This group has been created to help promote plastic awareness in Fishguard & Goodwick, Pembrokeshire. Please share any info, articles etc to help make people more aware of plastic in our oceans.”
Unpack and Give it Back Their information reads:
“A page to promote the launch of ‘Unpack and Give it Back’ on 25th January . Lots of people doing it on one day will have more impact.”
Dyfed-Powys Police have launched a public consultation on police funding and would like your assistance. They have written the following to the Town Council:
“As you will already be aware, local policing is funded from a Home Office grant, as well as contributions from the public via the Council Tax, known as the police precept. Decisions made in recent years have resulted in less money being available to deliver vital services for our communities, and with the continued threats of cuts from central government alongside the recently announced review of the funding formula it is a critical time for Police funding. I firmly believe that the public should have a strong voice in the decision to make changes to the public’s contribution through the Council Tax and that once agreed, the impact is clearly explained. Funding decisions must be translated into impact on services, and if the budget is cut, the public must realise what might be lost. On the other hand, if the decision is to increase the contributions, it is important that the public feel that they are getting value for money and a tangible benefit from the increase. I look forward to hearing the public’s opinion on this critical issue. St Davids has registered is intent to bid for the UK City of Culture in 2021. The bid will include the old “hundred” of Dewisland plus Fishguard and Roach. There are now 11 cities in the process and St Davids is currently 4th favourite to win! If successful there will be enormous boost to the local economy plus funding of £3m from the national lottery.

Fishguard Library is set to re-open on Fridays from April 1st – thanks to Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council agreeing to fund the additional hours. Since April 2015, the library has closed on Fridays as a result of the ongoing financial pressures faced by Pembrokeshire County Council. But following negotiations between the two authorities, the Town Council’s Finance Committee has agreed to cover the cost to enable the library to re-open six days a week. It follows a meeting of the Town Council on Tuesday (10th January) at which councillors approved the finance committee’s proposal to fund opening hours on Fridays for an initial period of 12 months. Cllr Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, said: “I’m delighted that the agreement has been reached with Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council, and we are very appreciative of their commitment to the library.
“Fishguard Library is a very well-used resource and I’m sure the return to full opening hours will prove popular with the local community. The library also houses the magnificent Last Invasion Tapestry and there is no doubt that this investment will also be a boost to tourism in the local area.”
